We sat down with master Mălăele for a thoughtful conversation, in which he shared his opinions and perspective on a multitude of subjects. Enjoy!

How has your experience as an actor influenced your approach to creating visual art?

Each person is a complex and unique conglomerate. It has not yet been discovered what exactly makes a person do what they do, and whether what they do will have continuity or is just temporary and perishable. The art of acting finds its purpose under the roof of the Theatre, one of the oldest human endeavors and perhaps the most well-known in the world of visual arts.

I believe that visual art and theater are sisters of the same blood, simply because both are beneficial, diverse, curious, revolutionary, tempting, and unpredictable. As for me, I cannot say whether the actor has influenced the visual artist, or vice versa, as I have been drawing and acting since I can remember! And I've known myself for quite some time...

Do you find any similarities between the creative processes of acting, writing, and visual arts?

Speaking here of imagined and unique works, in my opinion, the art of acting, writing, and visual art share a common fairy called Improvisation. Improvisation is the one that proposes solutions, seeks the unprecedented, and finds the alternative. I believe that this continuous state is maintained by playfulness and a constantly probing spirit.

What inspired you to create this collection of digital self-portraits?

A self-portrait assumes your current state at the moment of creating that graphic investment. If it is sweetened and untruthful, it speaks of your need for hypocrisy or lies; if it is truthful, it implies resignation or cynicism; if it is exaggerated, it shows arrogance or a way of masking complexes; if it is surreal and abstract, it speaks of your need for freedom and elevation.

I think that in the battle against time, the self-portrait presupposes hundreds of thousands of expressions, of which I have tried to extract the ones that seemed most interesting to me.

What do you hope people will remember from your collection of digital self-portraits?

I think they will remember what I once said in a short poem:

Once there was a man, you see...
Who wanted... just a bit to be...
And there he was, a man indeed...
A kind of... how to put it, read?
Our nature, damned and so confined,
To fit within "once upon a time..."

Can you explain how each artwork in your collection is unique and how this uniqueness is achieved?

I rarely make statements about my discovered deeds in public spaces, whether theater, drawing, or writing. Here I can confess that I was fascinated by what some hastily and accountant-like call digital art. We are talking about an exceptional new form of art that the present world relies on. So, on a graphic tablet, I drew the trunk, added dozens of facial components, each structured in the area of an idea, and then combined them. The result was astonishing. Keeping the ideas in different compositions, I was flooded with thousands of new and undoubtedly unique drawings. I would be delighted if these drawings and my excessive wonder also fall into your area of interest.

How do you think blockchain technology enhances the value and uniqueness of your digital art collection?

I believe blockchain technology really helps boost the value and uniqueness of digital art by offering a way to confirm the ownership and authenticity of each special piece. It makes it easier for collectors to trust that they're getting genuine, one-of-a-kind art.

Can you describe the benefits and advantages that collectors of your digital artwork will receive?

I think the pride of owning a unique piece is something special for anyone, not just for collectors. A smart and attentive team will explain the purpose and advantages of such a collection much more smoothly.

How do you think your digital art collection fits into the current art market and the growing popularity of NFTs?

I have no idea! I believe in the free and unaffiliated artist. Undoubtedly, digital art and NFTs will be a visible, unprecedented, and serious component of what we call Contemporary Modern Art.
